1948 – Frank Eslersmith the keyboardist for Air Supply is born 1954 – Nicko McBrain drummer for Iron Maiden is born 1956 – Richard Butler lead singer for the Psychedelic Furs is born 1971 – Grand Funk Railroad sells out New York’s Shea Stadium within 72 hours, breaking the Beatles’ box office record there. 1974 – Patti Smith enters a studio for the first time to cut her interpretation of “Hey Joe.” 1975 – Former Pink Floyd singer Syd Barrett turns up in the studio and is present while the band mixes Wish You Were Here, the majority of whose tracks refer to Barrett’s increasing dementia. 1977 – Tragedy on tour with Alice Cooper. The rat meant to be dinner for his boa constrictor bites the reptile, killing it. Cooper weeps that it’s like “like being hit on by your Wheaties” and vows to replace the snake. That is one Vicious Rat! 1979 – The 64-year-old Muddy Waters marries Marva Jean Brooks, 25. 1990 – Drummer Jim Hodder, who appeared on several Steely Dan albums, dies. 2001 – John Mayer, a songwriter inspired to pick up the guitar by the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, releases Room for Squares, the album that will shoot him to national prominence. 2002 – Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Glenn Colvin) is found dead in his Hollywood, Calif., home. He is 50. 2003 – The Project, a group made up of ex-Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum, pick Stone Temple Pilot Scott Weiland as their vocalist three days after he pleads not guilty to drugs charges. 2003 – Guitar legend Carlos Santana announces alongside Bishop Desmond Tutu that the proceeds from his summer tour will go towards battling AIDS. 2004 – Country star Toby Keith and “Cat Scratch Fever” guitarist Ted Nugent perform for American GIs at an installation in Baghdad, Iraq. 2007 – Paul McCartney released his 21st solo album Memory Almost Full. 2012 – Sheryl Crow states that she does not worry about it, a brain tumor,

1956 – Reeves Gabrels is born on today.He giged with David Bowie from 1987 to 2000. 1964 – Jimmy Nicol becomes the Beatles’ temporary drummer when Ringo Starr becomes ill before start of a world tour. 1974 – Stefan Lessard who plays bass for the Dave Matthews Band is born 1986 – The Conspiracy of Hope concert tour, starring Bryan Adams, Sting, Peter Gabriel, and U2, opens at San Francisco’s Cow Palace. 1990 – Stu Sweatman plays at Del Mar station. Ozzy Osbourne and entourage shows up at the gig and checks it out. 1997 – Ronnie Lane, bassist with the Small Faces and, later, the Faces, dies at his home in Colorado. He is 51. Lane had suffered from multiple sclerosis since 1977. 1997 – The body of Jeff Buckley is found floating in a harbor leading to the Mississippi River. Buckley had disappeared the previous Thursday while swimming with a friend 2000 – At a gig in Atlanta, Bruce Springsteen plays two new songs. The first is “Further On up the Road.” The second is the controversial “American Skin,” which references the shooting of Amadou Diallo by police in New York. 2001 – Beloved hard rock veterans Spinal Tap come back from the dead at New York’s Carnegie Hall with a 20-song, 90-minute performance as part of the annual Toyota Comedy Festival. 2002 – Coinciding with the publication of the first issue of Gene Simmons Toungue Magazine, Kiss introduces its novelty Kiss Kondomes to consumers.

Copeland filed a breach of contract lawsuit after the reunited group replaced him with drummer Ty Dennis. 2003 – The Osbournes star Jack Osbourne reveals he entered rehab to fight an addiction to Oxycontin. 2004 – Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips tell MTV that the band broke up have split after personal issues arose with singer Scott Stapp. 2006 – Red Hot Chili Peppers were at No.1 on the UK and US album charts with Stadium Arcadium the bands ninth studio album. 2010 - The Los Angeles City Council has officially declared May 30th RONNIE JAMES DIO Day. The announcement was made at Sunday’s public memorial service for the recently deceased, metal singer.

Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album is certified gold for sales on its first day in stores. 1969 – During their noted “bed-in” at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, John Lennon and Yoko Ono record “Give Peace a Chance” with friends Tommy and Dick Smothers, Derek Taylor, Murray the K and Timothy Leary. 1973 – Paul McCartney & Wings release the single “Live and Let Die” from the James Bond movie of the same name. 1974 – Alanis Morissette, singer, songwriter is born 1977 – Kiss release their album Love Gun. 1978 – Bob Dylan performs the first of several warm-up shows for the second leg of his 1978 world tour in Los Angeles. 1980 – Jimmy Page buys Michael Caine’s English mansion for a reported 900,000 pounds. 1987 – Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock, is released on bail in Liverpool after being accused of assaulting a fan. 1998 – Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, who was arrested for possession of cocaine and heroin in 1995, is arrested for drug possession again in New York. Weiland, who has about $100 worth of heroin, according to police, is charged with criminal trespassing and criminal possession of a controlled substance. 2003 – Paul McCartney wraps up his lucrative world tour with a show in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. 2004 – Sum 41 flee the Congo after an outbreak of rebel violence in the country’s ongoing civil war. The Canadian punk rockers were in the country to make a documentary drawing attention to the African nation’s problems. 2004 – U2 frontman Bono tries to persuade European Union ministers to extend debt relief programs for the world’s poorest countries when he addresses a special meeting in Dublin. 2005 – The White Stripes’ Jack White marries Karen Elson, a redhaired model who appeared in the duo’s “Blue Orchid,” video. The pair were wed in a canoe standing at the confluence of the Rio Negro, the Solimones and the Amazon rivers. 2008 – Alton Kelley, one of the founding members of the ’60s San Francisco rock scene, died Sunday June 1st, 2008 at his home in Petaluma after a long illness. He was 67. Mr. Kelley will be remembered as the creator (with his artistic partner, Stanley Mouse) of hundreds of classic psychedelic rock posters, such as the famed “skull and roses” poster for a Grateful Dead show at the Avalon Ballroom.
