1935 – Born on this day, Alex Harvey, vocals, guitar, Sensational Alex Harvey Band. 1941 – Cory Wells of Three Dog Night is born in Buffalo, N.Y. 1943 – Born on this day, Chuck Winfield, trumpet, Blood Sweat & Tears. 1944 – Al Kooper, the session guitarist turned organist for Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” is born in Brooklyn, N.Y. 1948 – Born on this day, David Denny, guitar, Steve Miller Band. 1948 – Born on this day, Nigel Tufnell, guitar, Spinal Tap. 1964 – Born on this day, Duff McKagan, bass, Guns N’ Roses, 1967 – The News Of The World reported that Mick Jagger had taken LSD at the Moody Blues’ home in the UK. Jagger sued the paper for libel in an on-going feud between the News Of The World and The Stones. 1968 – Spin Doctors vocalist Chris Barron is born in Hawaii. 1983 – Def Leppard’s album ‘Pyromania’, started a 92 week run on the US charts, it never reached No.1 but sold over 6 million copies in the US alone. 1985 – Appearing on UK music show ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’, Pete Burns, Judas Priest, Sade and Lemmy. 1992 – Touring Australia and New Zealand for the first and only time Nirvana appeared at the ANU Bar in Canberra, Australia. 2003 – Ex-Doors drummer John Densmore sues former bandmates Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger as well as newcomers Ian Astbury and Stewart Copeland, claiming the quartet were violating a copyright by using the name “The Doors.” They later change their name to “The Doors 21st Century.” 2003 – Courtney Love blamed her bad language for the alleged air rage incident that led to her arrest at London’s Heathrow Airport. 2004 – Former Sex Pistol/PiL frontman John Lydon walks off the U.K. edition of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here. 2006 – The Rolling Stones perform during the halftime show at Super Bowl XL. However, TV producers use a “dump button” to edit salacious lyrics from their songs

1948 – Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) is born in Detroit, the son of a minister. 1951 – Born on this day, Phil Ehart, Kansas. 1963 – Born on this day, Keith Wasserman, guitar, The Offspring. 1967 – The Rolling Stones’ Between the Buttons enters the U.K. chart at No. 3. 1968 – The Beatles record John Lennon’s “Across the Universe” at Abbey Road. Paul McCartney invites some fans to contribute harmonies – the only time the Beatles used their fans on record. 1970 – In a bizarre incident, John Lennon and Yoko Ono give a bag of their cut hair to a person named Michael X; in turn, he gives them a pair of Muhammad Ali’s boxing shorts. 1972 – In a memo to Attorney General John Mitchell, South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond suggests that John Lennon be deported. 1977 – Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is released. The album shoots to the top of Chart Toppers’s chart staying there for 31 weeks. More than 17 million copies have been sold. 1982 – Glam rocker Alex Harvey of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band dies after suffering a heart attack in Zeebruggen, Belgium. He was 47. 2001 – Jimmy Buffett is thrown out of a New York Knicks-Miami Heat after verbally abusing a referee. 2003 – Courtney Love is arrested upon arrival at London’s Heathrow Airport for alleged threatening and abusive behavior on a Virgin Atlantic flight from L.A. 2013 – ‘Wild Thing’ singer Reg Presley dies of cancer.

1947 – Dave Davies, Kinks guitarist and frequent sparring partner with his brother Ray, is born in Muswell Hill, London. 1949 – Born on this day, Arthur “Killer” Kane, bass guitarist with The New York Dolls. 1959 - The day the music died. : Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash in Clear Lake, IA en route to Fargo, ND for a concert. This crash would inspire Don McClean’s “American Pie”. Holly was 22 years old, The Big Bopper was 28 years old & Valens was 17 years old. 1961 – Bob Dylan makes his first recording, taping “San Francisco Bay Blues” in New York. 1967 – Jefferson Airplane perform at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium; they share the bill with Quicksilver Messenger Service. 1968 – The Beatles started work on their new single ‘Lady Madonna’ at Abbey Road studios in London. Recording three piano and drum takes with overdub bass, fuzz guitars, drums, and vocals. 1969 – John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison hire Allen Klein as the Beatles’ business manager. Paul McCartney disagrees with the decision, leading to further divisions among the group. 1970 – Born on this day, Richie Kotzen, Mr. Big. 1976 – David Bowie kicks off an American tour in Seattle, showing off his new Thin White Duke persona. 1992 – On their first Europe tour Pearl Jam played at The Esplanade Club in Southend, England to 300 people. 1996 – The Ramones claimed to have played their last gig in the UK, at The Brixton Academy, after 22 years together. 2006 – Sheryl Crow and cyclist Lance Armstrong announce to a disbelieving world that they are splitting. 2007 – Daughtry were at No.1 on the US album chart with their self-titled debut.

Member of Crosby Stills Nash & Young. 1946 – Born on this day, Howard Bellamy, Bellamy Brothers. 1949 – Born on this day, Ross Valory, bass, Steve Miller Band, Journey, No Nation… and more. 1962 – The Beatles played their first professionally organised gig outside of Liverpool at The Oasis Club, Manchester. The group’s set started with their version of ‘Hippy Hippy Shake.’ 1966 – The Rolling Stones released ’19th Nervous Breakdown’ it peaked at No.2 on the UK singles chart. 1967 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience played live on UK TV show Top Of The Pops performing ‘Purple Haze.’ 1969 – Yoko Ono divorced her husband Tony Cox, Yoko was granted custody of their daughter Kyoko. John Lennon married Yoko the following month on 30th March. 1973 – Keith Emerson’s hands are injured during a performance by Emerson, Lake & Palmer in San Francisco. His piano, rigged to explode as a stunt, detonates prematurely. 1978 – Van Halen is released this day in rock history! 1979 – Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols dies of a heroin overdose less than four months after fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, at New York’s Chelsea Hotel. 1980 – A large gathering of London punks remember Sid Vicious by participating in a march from the borough of Chelsea to the famed Hyde Park. The parade was to have been led by the musician’s mother, but she was in the hospital after suffering an overdose the previous evening. 1985 – Foreigner started a two-week run at No.1 on the US singles charts with ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’, also a UK No.1. 1992 – Musician Todd Rundgren and his wife, singer Michele Gray, have a son in San Francisco. They name the child Rebop. 2001 – Ted Nugent learns he isn’t getting the key to Detroit after city elders tell the mayor about some of the guitarist’s more controversial views. 2005 – Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington visits southern Thailand to assess the damage left by the 2004 tsunami. He visits two elementary schools and helps paint a house with other foreign travellers. 2006 – Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear announce they are splitting after 11 years of marriage. 2007 - Van Halen announced that David Lee Roth would be rejoining them as their singer for a reunion tour which kicked off in September of that year. It was also announced that Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang would be replacing Michael Anthony as their bassist.
