1953 - Jimmy McCulloch-guitarist for Wings born upon this day 1956 – Reeves Gabrels is born on today .He giged with David Bowie from 1987 to 2000. 1964 – Jimmy Nicol becomes the Beatles’ temporary drummer when Ringo Starr becomes ill before start of a world tour. 1974 – Stefan Lessard who plays bass for the Dave Matthews Band is born. 1975 - The Rolling Stones became the first Western rock band to collect royalties for albums sold in Russia. 1984 - Bruce Springsteen released his seventh studio album Born in the U.S.A. which went on to be Springsteen’s most commercially successful album selling fifteen million copies in the U.S. alone. 1986 – The Conspiracy of Hope concert tour, starring Bryan Adams, Sting, Peter Gabriel, and U2, opens at San Francisco’s Cow Palace. 1990 – Stu Sweatman plays at Del Mar station. Ozzy Osbourne and entourage shows up at the gig and checks it out. 1997 – Ronnie Lane, bassist with the Small Faces and, later, the Faces, dies at his home in Colorado. He is 51. Lane had suffered from multiple sclerosis since 1977. 1997 – The body of Jeff Buckley is found floating in a harbor leading to the Mississippi River. Buckley had disappeared the previous Thursday while swimming with a friend 2000 – At a gig in Atlanta, Bruce Springsteen plays two new songs. The first is “Further On up the Road.” The second is the controversial “American Skin,” which references the shooting of Amadou Diallo by police in New York. 2001 – Beloved hard rock veterans Spinal Tap come back from the dead at New York’s Carnegie Hall with a 20-song, 90-minute performance as part of the annual Toyota Comedy Festival. 2002 – Coinciding with the publication of the first issue of Gene Simmons Toungue Magazine, Kiss introduces its novelty Kiss Kondomes to consumers.

The show is hosted by Dean Martin. 1967 – The Doors release their No. 1 single “Light My Fire.” 1967 – Jefferson Airplane appear on American Bandstand, playing “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love.” 1970 - Deep Purple released their fourth studio album Deep Purple in Rock which was their first album to contain their classic Mark II lineup featuring singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover. 1970 – In the recording studio, Ray Davies of the Kinks changes the word “Coca-Cola” in the song “Lola” to “cherry cola” to qualify for airplay on the BBC. 1972 – Pink Floyd release the soundtrack to director Barbet Schroeder’s Obscured by Clouds. 1972 – The Eagles release “Take It Easy.” 1974 – No. 1 Chart Toppers Pop Hit: “Band on the Run,” Paul McCartney & Wings. It is recorded in Lagos, Nigeria. 1981 – Phil Collins releases his solo debut, Face Value. 1987 – Bryan Adams records a live version of the Christmas song “Run Rudolph Run.” 1989 – Pink Floyd perform in Moscow. 1993 – U2 re-sign with Island, guaranteeing six albums over the next 10 years. 1994 – Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam marries Beth Liebling. 1998 – Van Halen is forced to cancel a concert at the Docks club in Hamburg, Germany, after a chunk of ceiling plaster falls on drummer Alex Van Halen’s arm 2000 – Allman Brother Dickey Betts is arrested after threatening his wife with a knife, destroying his living room in Florida, and disappearing. 2003 – The Doors announce they’ve settled a lawsuit launched by Stewart Copeland. Copeland filed a breach of contract lawsuit after the reunited group replaced him with drummer Ty Dennis. 2003 – The Osbournes star Jack Osbourne reveals he entered rehab to fight an addiction to Oxycontin. 2004 – Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips tell MTV that the band broke up have split after personal issues arose with singer Scott Stapp. 2006 – Red Hot Chili Peppers were at No.1 on the UK and US album charts with Stadium Arcadium the bands ninth studio album. 2010 - The Los Angeles City Council has officially declared May 30th RONNIE JAMES DIO Day. The announcement was made at Sunday’s public memorial service for the recently deceased, metal singer.

1941 – Charles Robert “Charlie” Watts is born 1964 – The Rolling Stones make their U.S. debut performance at the Manning Bowl in Lynn, Mass. 1972 – Former teen idol Dion performs in a reunion concert with The Belmonts at Madison Square Garden in New York. 1973 – Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham settles an argument with promoter Bill Graham at a San Francisco gig by emptying a bucket of water over him. 1984 – Aerosmith played at the Capitol Theater in Concord, New Hampshire, the first night on their 59 date North American Back In The Saddle Tour. 1993 – Aerosmith appeared at the Landon Arena in Kansas, the first night on their 169 date Get A Grip world tour. 1998 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer Rod Stewart performs a series of one-hour shows along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood to promote his current album “When We Were the New Boys.” 2000 – Napster.com asks the Offspring to stop selling merchandise with its logo on it. The Web site also announces the reinstatement of 30,000 Metallica fans barred from using its MP3-sharing software. 2003 – Following a dispute over songwriting credits with John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney agrees to let “Lennon-McCartney” be. McCartney outraged many Beatles fans by demanding “Yesterday” and other McCartney songs be credited to “McCartney-Lennon.” 2003 – Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland pleads innocent to drugs possession charges in Los Angeles. Court officials say Weiland will enter a rehab facility to combat cocaine and heroin addiction. 2004 - Judas Priest kicked off their reunion tour with singer Rob Halford at Stadiumsporthalle in Hannover, Germany. 2004 – Sir Paul McCartney tells Uncut magazine that he tried heroin without realising. “I was just handed something, smoked it, then found out what it was,” he says. “It didn’t do anything for me.” 2008 – Bo Diddly dies this day.

The album is certified gold for sales on its first day in stores. 1969 – During their noted “bed-in” at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, John Lennon and Yoko Ono record “Give Peace a Chance” with friends Tommy and Dick Smothers, Derek Taylor, Murray the K and Timothy Leary. 1973 – Paul McCartney & Wings release the single “Live and Let Die” from the James Bond movie of the same name. 1974 – Alanis Morissette, singer, songwriter is born 1977 – Kiss release their album Love Gun. 1978 – Bob Dylan performs the first of several warm-up shows for the second leg of his 1978 world tour in Los Angeles. 1980 – Jimmy Page buys Michael Caine’s English mansion for a reported 900,000 pounds. 1987 – Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock, is released on bail in Liverpool after being accused of assaulting a fan. 1998 – Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, who was arrested for possession of cocaine and heroin in 1995, is arrested for drug possession again in New York. Weiland, who has about $100 worth of heroin, according to police, is charged with criminal trespassing and criminal possession of a controlled substance. 2003 – Paul McCartney wraps up his lucrative world tour with a show in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. 2004 – Sum 41 flee the Congo after an outbreak of rebel violence in the country’s ongoing civil war. The Canadian punk rockers were in the country to make a documentary drawing attention to the African nation’s problems. 2004 – U2 frontman Bono tries to persuade European Union ministers to extend debt relief programs for the world’s poorest countries when he addresses a special meeting in Dublin. 2005 – The White Stripes’ Jack White marries Karen Elson, a redhaired model who appeared in the duo’s “Blue Orchid,” video. The pair were wed in a canoe standing at the confluence of the Rio Negro, the Solimones and the Amazon rivers. 2008 – Alton Kelley, one of the founding members of the ’60s San Francisco rock scene, died Sunday June 1st, 2008 at his home in Petaluma after a long illness. He was 67. Mr. Kelley will be remembered as the creator (with his artistic partner, Stanley Mouse) of hundreds of classic psychedelic rock posters, such as the famed “skull and roses” poster for a Grateful Dead show at the Avalon Ballroom.
