1944 – Vocalist Glenn Shorrock of the Little River Band is born in Rochester 1949 - Andy Scott-guitarist for Sweet born today 1963 – Yngwie Malmsteen is born in Stockholm Sweden 1966 – The Beatles played the first of three concerts at the Nippon Budokan Hall, Japan. 1973 – George Harrison knocked Paul McCartney from the top of the US singles chart with ‘Give Me Love, Give Me Peace On Earth’. His second US No.1, a No.8 hit in the UK. 1974 – Gregg Allman marries Cher four days after her divorce from Sonny Bono. After nine days, Cher announces she wants another divorce. They separate and divorce about 3 1/2 years later. 1989 – The surviving Beatles sue for an injunction against Dave Clark, formerly of the Dave Clark Five, banning him from selling copies of the old Ready Steady Go! TV show featuring the Beatles. The case is later settled out of court. 1990 – Pink Floyd headline the Knebworth festival 1994 – Virgin Records rushes the Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge into stores early after the album is played on the radio. 1996 – Neil Young premieres his album, “Broken Arrow” via the Internet. The album is slated for release on July 2, two days after its technologically advanced premiere. 1999 – Eric Clapton performs a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden for his Crossroads rehab center in Antigua. His guests include Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, and Bob Dylan. 2004 – Kinks founder member Dave Davies was left paralysed on the right-hand side of his body after suffering a stroke. The 57-year-old guitarist and brother of fellow Kinks star Ray Davies had been promoting his solo material when he collapsed. 2004 – David Bowie cancels the remainder of his Reality tour after suffering a pinched nerve in his shoulder. 2013 – Lou Reed was rushed to a Long Island hospital! Reed, who recently received a liver transplant, reportedly had been sick to his stomach a number of times and there were concerns that his body might be rejecting the new organ.

1948 – Drummer Ian Paice of Deep Purple is born in Nottingham 1953 – Don Dokken is born this day 1956 – In a step back for rock, Elvis Presley appears on Steve Allen’s TV show to sing “Hound Dog” to an actual basset hound. 1957 – Buddy Holly records “Peggy Sue.” 1964 – Touring Australia The Beatles played two shows at the Festival Hall, Brisbane. Over 8,000 fans had waited until after midnight to greet the group as they landed at Brisbane Airport. 1966 – Some 500 police are needed to contain the crowd when the Beatles play Tokyo. 1967 – Two days after Mick Jagger is found guilty of drug possession and jailed, Keith Richards goes on trial for similar charges stemming from a February raid on his home. Judge Leslie Block finds him guilty of allowing his house to be used for smoking cannabis and sentences him to a year in jail. Jagger is sentenced to three months in jail. Their sentences are later suspended following a public outcry. 1968 – Pink Floyd release A Saucerful of Secrets. The Floyd celebrate by performing a free show in London’s Hyde Park with Jethro Tull, Roy Harper, and T. Rex. 1968 – A free concert was held in London’s Hyde Park with Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Roy Harper. 1969 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience play their last concert together at the Denver Pop Festival in Mile High Stadium. 1973 – Ian Gillan leaves Deep Purple after a show in Japan. 1974 – There’s a change in the lineup of future Canadian prog superstars Rush as Neil Peart replaces John Rustey on the drum stool today. Neil is considered by some to be one of the best drummers of the Rock era. 1975 – In Oakland, Calif., Elton John joins the Doobie Brothers on stage to duet on “Listen to the Music.” 1975 – Tim Buckley dies of a heart attack at the age of 28. 1978 – Peter Frampton suffers a broken arm and cracked ribs in an auto wreck in the Bahamas. 1985 – John Lennon’s 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V limousine, with psychedelic paintwork, sold for a record sum of $3,006,385, (£1,768,462) at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. 1988 – Nirvana, Mudhoney and Tad all appeared at the Moore Theatre, Seattle. 1993 – Aerosmith release their much-loved single “Cryin’.” 1996 – Record producer George Martin received a Knighthood, also music promoter Harvey Goldsmith became an MBE and Van Morrison an OBE. 2000 – Vandals pull Ronnie Van Zant’s casket out of the Lynyrd Skynyrd mausoleum, but are unable to open it. Steve Gaines’ ashes are also spilled during the rampage. 2000 – Rolling Stone Ron Wood checks into a rehab center to treat alcohol addiction. It’s believed Wood is hoping to dry out in time for a Rolling Stones world tour. 2004 – Courtney Love was reprimanded by Los Angeles Judge Melissa Jackson for turning up five hours late to a hearing. Love pleaded guilty to a single charge of disorderly conduct and was given a discharge, on condition she paid the victim’s medical bills, joins a drug programme and stayed out of trouble. 2010 - Rush kicked off their Time Machine Tour at the Journal Pavilion in Albuquerque, NM. During this tour they performed Moving Pictures in its entirety for the first time.

1943 – Procul Harum drummer Bobby Harrison is born today 1969 - Creedence Clearwater Revival peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “Bad Moon Rising” which was their second top ten single in the U.S. 1977 – Elton John achieved a lifelong ambition when he became the Chairman of Watford Football Club. 1978 – The Clash supported by The Specials appeared at Friars, Aylesbury 1979 – Born on this day, Tim McCord, bass, Evanescence 1980 – Roxy Music scored their second UK No.1 album with ‘Flesh And Blood’. 1983 – David Bowie appeared at The Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, on his Serious Moonlight tour. 1990 – Over 200 women filed court actions against Chuck Berry after it was alleged that he had been secretly filming them in the rest rooms of the restaurant he owned. 1991 – “Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio” debuts at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. McCartney co-writes the 90-minute work with American-born composer Carl Davis to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Liverpool’s Royal Philharmonic. 1993 – The Manic Street Preachers played a sold out gig at the Marquee Club, London. 1996 – Def Leppard kicked off the North American leg of their 133-date Slang world tour at The Blossom Music Centre, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. 1997 – Radiohead went to No.1 on the UK album chart with their third album ‘OK Computer’. 1997 – The classic Pink Floyd album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ spent its 1056th week on the US album chart. 1997 - Bob Seger drove his BMW off of the Trans-Canada Highway in Nipigon, Ontario & was charged with drunk driving after crashing his car. 2000 – Chris Cornell, former lead singer of Seattle’s Soundgarden, and his wife, artist manager Susan Silver, become parents of a baby daughter when Lillian Jean is born. 2001 – Phish and the Grateful Dead are the big winners at the second annual Jammy Awards, held at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. 2002 - Rush kicked off their tour in support of Vapor Trails which was their first tour in five years at the Meadows Music Theater in Hartford, CT.

1942 - Bruce Johnston-bassist for The Beach Boys is born today 1970 – The English band Smile decide to change their name to Queen. 1970 – Pink Floyd perform “Atom Heart Mother” live for the first time at the Bath Festival 1970 – Led Zeppelin, The Byrds and Jefferson Airplane all appeared at The Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in Bath, England, tickets £1.10s. 1976 – After much legal wrangling, John Lennon finally receives his green card. 1978 – Kansas becomes the first group chosen as UNICEF’s deputy ambassadors of goodwill. 1980 – John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin collapsed on stage during a gig in Nuremberg, West Germany. 1989 – The Who perform their rock opera Tommy at Radio City Music Hall in New York to benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a children’s charity. 1991 – Carlos Santana is arrested in Houston on charges of marijuana possession. 1993 – In concert, Don Henley dedicates his cover of “It’s Not Easy Being Green” to President Clinton. 1994 – Aerosmith became the first major band to let fans download a full new track free from the internet. 1995 – Godfather of grunge Neil Young and godchildren of grunge Pearl Jam release their collaborative album Mirror Ball. 2000 –Sum 41 release their debut album Half Hour of Power 2002 – One day before the scheduled first show of The Who’s 2002 US tour, bass player John Entwistle, died aged 57 in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. 2006 – Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose is arrested in after allegedly biting a security guard in the leg outside his hotel. 2008 – Kings of Leon, The Fratellis, Editors, The Gossip, The Feeling, KT Tunstall, Kate Nash, Jay Z, Amy Winehouse, The Raconteurs, James Blunt, Crowded House, Seasick Steve, Martha Wainwright, The Verve, Leonard Cohen, The Ting Tings, Goldfrapp, Neil Diamond, Pete Doherty, Scouting for Girls, Mark Ronson, Duffy, The Zutons, Groove Armada and John Mayer all appeared at this year’s 3 day UK Glastonbury Festival.
