1945 – Neil Young is born in Toronto.
1947 – Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, bassist with Blue Oyster Cult, is born.
1964 – Born on this day, David Ellefson, Magadeth.
1966 – The Grateful Dead perform at a Hell’s Angels dance held at San Francisco’s Sokol Hall.
1966 - Stephen Stills was inspired to write “For What It’s Worth” for Buffalo Springfield after teenagers were beaten by police on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip for protesting a curfew.
1970 – The Doors play their last concert with Jim Morrison in New Orleans.
1971 – Led Zeppelin IV lands in stores. The much-anticipated record had been delayed due to problems with the final mixing and cover artwork, which doesn’t feature a title or the band’s name – just some bizarre runic symbols.
1979 – San Francisco witnesses the premiere of Rock Justice, a rock opera penned by Jefferson Starship’s Marty Balin. The show runs for four nights at the Old Waldorf nightclub. Balin stars as a rock star on trial for suffering a career nosedive.
1990 – Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood is hit by a car in England and breaks both his legs.
2002 – Die-hard Beatles fans were enraged after Paul McCartney altered the song writing credits on his ‘Back In The US 2002′ album, changing them to McCartney and Lennon from Lennon and McCartney.
2003 – Phil Collins reveals that he has lost nearly 60 percent of his hearing in his left ear.
2003 – New Jersey radio station WCHR pulls all Jethro Tull music from its playlist after flute-waving frontman Ian Anderson criticizes excessive displays of the American flag, arguing, “It’s easy to confuse patriotism with nationalism.”
2004 – Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, The White Stripes, Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch, Underworld’s Karl Hyde, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackay, and the Undertones’ Feargal Sharkey attend the funeral of British DJ John Peel.
2008 - Mitch Mitchell, drummer for The Jimi Hendrix Experience died in his sleep of natural causes in his hotel room in Portland, OR. He was 61 years old.
2010 – Tesla’s Frank Hannon accuses G'N’R of plagiarism.
