1959 - The day the music died. : Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash in Clear Lake, IA en route to Fargo, ND for a concert. This crash would inspire Don McClean’s “American Pie”. Holly was 22 years old, The Big Bopper was 28 years old & Valens was 17 years old.
1961 – Bob Dylan makes his first recording, taping “San Francisco Bay Blues” in New York.
1967 – Jefferson Airplane perform at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium; they share the bill with Quicksilver Messenger Service.
