1933 – Mike Stoller of the Leiber & Stoller writing team (“Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock”) is born today on Long Island, N.Y. 1948 – Walter Parazaider (Chicago) is born this day . 1960 – Adam Clayton, bass, U2, is born 1965 – Eric Clapton leaves the Yardbirds over their new “pop” direction. 1965 – The Kinks release “Tired of Waiting for You.” 1965 – Beatles begin filming Australian sequences of film Help. 1966 – Rod Stewart leaves Steampacket to go solo. 1971 – Stephen Stills hits UK chart with Love The One You’re With. 1987 – The first cassete single is released and it’s … Bryan Adams’ “Heat of the Night.” 1987 – Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 1993 – Lenny Kravitz : Are You Gonna Go My Way : UK LP is number one on the charts. 1996 – Alanis Morissette: Mississippi revokes a commendation it gave to Glen Ballard. The state’s officials are angry over the producer’s participation in the salacious Alanis Morissette song "You oughta know" 1996 – The Ramones: A crowd in Buenos Aires riots after it’s revealed that the Ramones tickets they waited all night to buy have already been sold. 1998 – The Smashing Pumpkins file suit against U.K.-based Sound And Media Ltd., alleging that the firm released a “book-with-CD” about the band without proper clearances. 2001 – Eric Clapton releases “Reptile,” his first solo album since 1998’s “Pilgrim.” 2002 – Radiohead and actor Ewan McGregor contribute voiceovers to an advertisement for anti-poverty charity War on Want that premieres today in the U.K. 2004 – Blink-182 are forced to cancel several dates on their Australian tour after drummer Travis Barker breaks his foot while getting off a bus in Melbourne. 006 – Metallica inducts Black Sabbath into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Metallica also performs a short set of Sabbath songs during the event at New York’s Waldorf Hotel. 2006 – The Sex Pistols opt not to attend their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel. “We’re not coming. We’re not your monkeys,” reads a handwritten statement. 2006 – Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Miles Davis are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Blondie’s performance is marred when several old members of the band try to rush the stage. 2012 – Mike Hossack, a longtime member of rock band The Doobie Brothers dies.
